Wichita Riding Academy - located at 10727 E 39th S Derby, KS Just 5 miles from Kellogg and Rock Road intersection - is offering a five week class starting on March 2nd. Class is 1 1/2 hours long on Tuesdays starting at 7:00 PM Cost is $100.00 for all 5 classes. The basics of driving, harnessing a horse/pony will be covered. Students will actually hook and drive horses and ponies. This class covers light harness (As Morgan, shetland, Miniture horse, Saddlebred, etc. are typically shown)not draft or pulling harness. Classes are held in our indoor arena and limited to 5 persons. details! April 24th, 2010 - Benefit Trail Ride Saturday at Stone Lake in Great Bend for Rainbow Meadows Horse Rescue in Sedan, KS. The trail ride is a Poker Run/Trail Ride. The cost is $5.00/hand or $20.00 for 5 hands. Registration begins at 9am and goes until 11am. There is a hamburger/hotdog feed from 11am to 12:30pm. Poker hands must be played prior to 1pm, people can start playing poker hands anytime after they register. Then the ride begins at 1pm and will be along the Arkansas River, which is a very nice and easy ride. Anyone who has ridden along the river has truly enjoyed it. Prizes will be awarded at 4:30pm sharp, must be present to win! The prize list, so far, includes a Saddle as first prize, $300 worth of feed from Great Bend Co-op and Purina Feed, a DVD set from Pat Parelli, breastcollar from Chris Cox, a days lesson from Kerry Kuhn, a Quarter Horse crossing sign, an embroidered horse head throw pillow, and the list is still growing! Please enter early, the first entry in each division receives a Farrier’s formula barn bag (approx $70 value) we will also have some fun events at my ride like a tack swap and possibly a poker run ride on Sunday. Sunday, May 30th at Eisenhower State Park, Melvern Lake, Lyndon, KS.
Registration is at 9 am and the ride starts at 11 am. We will have two ride
groups - fast and slow. We will ride for 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Steaks will be cooked
by Josh & Gwen Hoy of the Flying W Ranch, Clements, KS. Sides will be provided
by Reser Fine Foods, Topeka. A silent and live auction will follow the dinner.
This event is a fund raiser for an aviation incentive program Dewayne runs in
Kansas and Missouri called Wright Flight. Money raised goes to buy avgas for the
volunteer pilots who fly the kids who successfully complete the program
requirements. October 7th, 2009 - Dr. Tom Warner of Kansas State University is hosting a meeting on Oct. 7 in Cottonwood Falls to discuss the establishment of a private horse trail system in the Kansas Flint Hills. He is bringing together private citizens, trail riding enthusiasts, land owners, legislators, Kansas Travel and Tourism representatives and the Convention and Visitors Bureaus from many of the 22 counties that make up the Flint Hills. This meeting will be an open discussion of the very positive opportunities this horse trail could provide for land owners, small business owners, entrepreneurs & horse enthusiasts. The idea is to have a linked trail throughout the Flint Hills that would be for horses only, not multi-purpose. 10:00am - 2:00pm. Where: Cottonwood Falls, Kansas - Community Center in Swope Park. This is the 17th annual Lawrence old fashion parade. There will be over 100 entries of horse drawn vehicles and riders. Come early and have breakfast at the Aldridge Hotel, that is where the parade starts. After the parade check out the ginger bread house displays. They are incredible. I know the weather will be great, it's always sunny in Kansas.
